characterED is the consultancy arm of the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues. characterED provides expert advice, training, mentoring, and evaluation services to strengthen character development and ethics in schools, colleges, universities, businesses and other organisations.
Tom Harrison is a Professor of Education and the Director of the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues as well as Deputy Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) at the University of Birmingham. Tom’s specialist interests include character education, cyber-wisdom and the Internet, and character education and higher education.
Andrew Peterson is Professor of Character and Citizenship Education and is the Deputy Director of the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues. He is Editor of the British Journal of Educational Studies. Andrew’s research concentrates on the connections between character and citizenship education.
James Arthur is Professor Emeritus of the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues and was Director between 2012-2023. James was Head of the School of Education from 2010-2015 and Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor from 2015-2019. James was made an Officer of the British Empire by the Queen in 2018.
Professor Kristján Kristjánsson
Kristján Kristjánsson is Professor of Character Education and Virtue Ethics in the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues. Kristján has published over 150 articles in international journals and is the Editor of the Journal of Moral Education.
Dr Liz Gulliford is Associate Professor in the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues. She currently teaches on the University of Birmingham’s MA in Character Education. She is also an Associate Fellow of the Oxford Character Project.
Paul Watts is Programme Director for the MA Character Education and Associate Professor in the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues. Paul’s research interests include the practical application of character education and teacher education.
Dr. Shane McLoughlin is an Associate Professor at the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues. He specialises in psychometric measurement, quantitative assessment of intervention efficacy, and meaning-focused behaviour therapies.
Rebecca is an associate researcher and has over 18 years’ experience working in education, specialising in early years. She is a former teacher and previously led the early years specialism on the primary PGCE at the University of Warwick.
Michael is an Assistant Professor on the MA Character Education and a former primary school teacher. Michael’s doctoral research explores how character education can influence positive student-teacher relationships within schools.
Elliot joined the Jubilee Centre in October 2022 as Research Administrator. In such a role, Elliot is responsible for providing dedicated support to engagement and digital activities.
Holly is a Project Manager coordinating a range of research projects. Holly has a BSc in Psychology from Bangor University and a MSc in Neuroimaging from Cardiff University,
Rachael is a Research Fellow working on projects that support global character development. Rachael is also founding director of an organisation that supports mental health and wellbeing in UK schools.
